Last month, NJ Monthly released its 2012 Top NJ High School Rankings. This report comes out once every two years, and this year there were a few interesting curveballs on the list. Perhaps the biggest shocker was that Millburn High School (Millburn-Short Hills‘s public high school) was no longer ranked #1, as it had been in previous years, but rather New Providence topped the list this time, taking the first place position. There were also some significant changes with several of the local schools, mostly showing improvements in their respective standings.

Three local high schools (with direct trains to NYC, may I add) made the top 10 list: New Providence (1), Madison (6), and Millburn (8). Some other local schools that made the top 50 list (out of 328 high schools) are Glen Ridge, Summit, West Essex in North Caldwell, Chatham, Livingston, Jonathan Dayton in Springfield, Governor Livingston in Berkeley Heights, West Morris Mendham, Columbia High School in Maplewood & South Orange, and Westfield.
One of the reasons for shifts in ranking from the 2010 report is that NJ Monthly changed the weighting on some of its criteria. You can see the full explanation here.
