As home to one of my favorite downtown areas and a commuting hub, it’s no wonder why Summit is one of the most popular communities among people relocating from the city. There is a wide variety of restaurants, boutiques, banks, and specialty stores, making Summit a pleasure to explore.
 
Summit also boasts one of the top high schools in the state. On Niche.com, Summit ranked #6 as one of the best school districts in New Jersey.
 

Summit School Information

The Summit Public Schools serve students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade. There are two primary schools serving grades PreK-K- Jefferson Primary School and Wilson Primary School. Five elementary schools (1-5)- Brayton Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School, Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School. There is one middle school, Summit Middle School for sixth through eighth grade and Summit High School for grades 9-12.
 
There are also a variety of private schools in Summit.
 
  • The Kent Place School is a private all girls independent college preparatory day school serving students in preschool through twelfth grade.
  • Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child is a Catholic coeducational school from PreK to grade 6 and all girls for seventh grade to twelfth grade. The school operates under the supervision of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark.
  • Oratory Preparatory School is a Roman Catholic all boys prep day school for boys in grades 7-12.
  • St. Teresa of Avila School (PreK-K), operated by the Archdiocese of Newark

Summit Commuting Information

Service on the New Jersey Transit Gladstone Branch and Morris & Essex line is available at the Summit station. Trains go to Hoboken Terminal, and from there, a PATH subway train can take passengers to downtown Manhattan or to 33rd street at Sixth Avenue. There is direct service from Summit to New York’s Penn Station in midtown. Trains run hourly to Manhattan, and run more frequently during rush hours which also have express trains which bypass local stops between Summit and Newark. The train ride from Summit to midtown is about 50 minutes (local) and 35 minutes (express). Trains don’t run from midnight to 5:30am.
 
Summit also offers easy access to Routes 24, 78, 287, the Garden State Parkway, and the NJ Turnpike.
 
Newark Liberty International Airport is approximately 15 minutes away via Interstate 78.
 

Summit Downtown & Park Information

Downtown Summit is located in the heart of the city and its charm and sophistication abounds with over 200 unique boutiques, variety of restaurants and services.
 
Designated to the National Register of Historic Places, Summit downtown takes pride in its array of architecturally significant buildings that date back to the turn of the 19th century.
 
Summit is easily accessible by various modes of transportation include NJ Transit (Mid-Town Direct), bus lines, Newark International Airport, the Garden State Parkway in addition to Routes 24, 78 & 287. Summit Downtown.
